I took the Jeopardy test tonight.
When I was a child, I vowed to myself that one day, I would appear on Jeopardy or Price is Right. Since Bob Barker left the Price is Right and since I work during it’s 11am local air time, I don’t really watch it now, nor do I have the overwhelming desire to be on the show any more. Jeopardy, on the other hand, still holds my attention. I don’t watch it nearly as much as I used to, but it would still be a quirky feather in my random intelligence cap and still a goal.
So how’d I do on the test?–Eh. I’ll never know. I knew a bunch of the questions right off the bat, especially the first one where the answer was Jane Eyre–so I started off on a really good note. BOO-YAH! Later on, the questions were less apparent to me. At one point, Greg pipped up on one Lit question that I was struggling with because I couldn’t remember if a certain character was from Robinson Crusoe or Moby Dick. “Everyone knows Queequeg is from Moby Dick!” he shouted from behind me, helping me to my decision and shaming me as an English grad.
What? I’ve never read Moby Dick. I couldn’t stand reading any of Melville’s short stories, so I never felt inclined to take THAT torturous plunge. The second time I was ever assigned “Bartleby the Scrivener” in school, I skipped that day. I planned my entire semester around skipping that day.
So did I do well enough to solicit a follow-up test/interview? I dunno, probably not, but that won’t keep me from trying the next time I get the test invitation in my inbox!
