G: Georgia Mountain Hike (High Shoals)

This past weekend, Greg and I found yet another new place to go for a day hike. We packed up our waters, bear spray, and Scotch (our dog, I swear) and then drove about 45 minutes to the High Shoals trail in Hiawassee, Georgia. Greg and I both took pictures this time around, which means we wound up with a lot. I’m going to divide the images up between today and tomorrow, so if you like what you see, come back for more!

The High Shoals trail is about 2.7 miles in total. It’s an in and out trail with two waterfalls. The terrain is pretty easy. There’s a downward slope most of the way to the falls, and then when you have to hike back out, it’s slightly up hill the whole way.

Over all it was a pretty fun day and a good trail to take a dog to. It was a bit more crowded than I normally like, but a lot of  the people were due to it being a volunteer day on the trail, so there was a lot of maintenance work going on.

While I tried to put these in some semblance of order, I gave up half-way through.

  1. I still giggled when you said you were ending your day with Scotch. I couldn’t help but picture you guys taking a shot or two of liquor. Great pictures!!!

  2. Excellent pics April. A day hiking through somewhere like that would be heaven to me. We have a forest which is about a 30 minute drive from where we live, but once inside the perimeter there are tracks, streams and wonderfully peaceful areas galore. I’ve gone there myself before now, simply to sit with a thermos of coffee and write.
